My husband and I are looking to relocate to Atlanta and wondered if anyone had a feel for the job market for attorneys. My husband has 17 years of experience as a litigation attorney and because GA is a reciprical state with MI he can be admitted without a bar examination and licensed rather quickly. However, we had no feel yet for the job opportunities in the area for attorneys with his background.

LIke most big cities, you can't swing a dead cat in Atlanta without hitting an attorney, so I'd doubt there would be a problem finding a position. Now, finding a position that will pay him for his 17 years of experience might be a different story...

Great - another attorney is moving to the city! (LOL!) I doubt that your husband will have any trouble finding a job. If you can grab the latest issue of Atlanta Magazine (October 2007) there is an entire section entitled "Georgia Rising Stars: Super Lawyers 2007". I think that this might be a link for the section: Search for a Super Lawyer - Lawyers, Attorney, Legal Resources, Attorneys, Law Firm, Articles, Law Firms, Local :: Super Lawyers and the magazine's website is Atlanta Magazine.

Alston and Bird is one of the bigger law firms in Atlanta and has been rated in the top 10 best places to work according to Fortune Magazine (?). Alston + Bird is their website. Sorry - I don't know what specific type of law they practice. Also my friend's father is a partner with Drew, Eckl and Farnham (Drew Eckl & Farnham, LLP - Practices) and I know that they do litigation. These two law firms are located in Midtown.

I know that you will enjoy our winters! Welcome and good luck!

Watch out. He'll sue you for cat-ass-trophic injuries.

Default another attorney

I'm sure your husband's chances are very good in atlanta-
because if you had said Savannah, I'd put my money elsewhere.
(Savannah has the highest concentration of attorneys per capita in the state/nation)

Thank you for all your help. We went to Atlanta over the weekend to "check" things out and loved it! I look forward to the move (if it does happen). Really liked Peachtree City. Anyone have any info on that. Again, for those of you who responded, thank you.

Peachtree City is nice but if he ends up working in Downtown/Midtown/Buckhead (where most law offices are) then the commute is going to be hell.

Traffic in Atlanta is horrible. I have to agree with the previous poster - Peachtree City to Midtown will be hell. In fact, I sold a one bedroom condo to a couple that have their main home in Peachtree City in Midtown. They wanted a place to rest their heads so they would not have to make the long drive back on nights that they have to be in the city. They joke that they live in the other State (referring to Peachtree City) They have loved the condo so much that I am now looking at finding them a permanent residence in the City and they will sell their large home in Peachtree City.

I would strongly recommend that you find a home as close to your husband's new job as possible. Traffic in Atlanta is a beast and being stuck in it is no fun.
