Those two are okay. Hks looks good from the inside, tvdesign looks interesting from the outside. The two in the other link I posted look awful in my opinion.

Yea, I still like the Parthanon most. But wish it had better skyline views from inside the stadium.

That's cause it was left as a stadium... My entire point is make it no longer anywhere near still a stadium. NO LONGER A STADIUM. NO LONGER A STADIUM. NO SEATS. NOT A STADIUM...
I said convert the "structure" into a mixed-use indoor amusement park, indoor underground parking and some extra GWCC Convention floor space.

Whatever the case may be, the whole point is to NOT just tear it down and create nothing more than yet another vast, flat open parking lot in the center of the city like they did to Fulton County Stadium... That was tragic. Fulton Co. deserved better than that. At least have developed the land into something instead of parking your stinky little Prius on top of the land where legends once played the game... Tragic.

I don't care what's done, long as it's not a parking lot. Tear it down, fine. Long as it's torn down then developed. I'd even settle for a large, multi level parking structure, but another flat, eyesore lot is going to drive me insane.
I think they should tear down all the walls and interior. Completely rebuild the structure into something new, then somehow top the new development with the same old nostalgic canopy top from the Dome.
Maybe just a small pedestrian only walking shopping & entertainment district between the Pantheon & GWCC. Bars, restaurants, fast food, retail, etc... Then top the entire development with the canopy top (kind of like Atlanta's version of Freemont St. in Las Vegas) that way people could walk around the area without being rained on. Then call the new development "The Dome"
Kids in the future can be seen "hanging out and shopping at the Dome"

Just a thought:

Underground Atlanta
6 city blocks, 12 acres and 3 levels of 225,000 square feet

Georgia Dome lot
6 city blocks, 8.9-9.19 acres of land and (structure: 7 levels of 1.6 million square feet), 102,000 square foot floor.

If torn turned into a 3 level mixed use (restaurant, bar, retail, entertainment) structure like Underground with underground parking, it could be about 6 blocks of over 300,000 square feet of things to do...

Psykomonkee: How about converting the existing stadium into an indoor ski slope, like they have in Tokyo?

malls are dead. there are whole websites devoted to archiving all the malls that have died over the years— there are about 10 dead malls in the atlanta area, and only 4 of our malls have any real chance of surviving the next decade. underground is suffering terribly enough as it is, add that much more retail in a mall-style setting with no residential space, and that's how much more you're going to have empty storefronts.

i know some of us feel nostalgic about the dome, but in all honesty it's only been there for 20 years, and has one of the plainest designs i've ever seen for a stadium. it's completely insular, it doesn't have any street-level interaction and makes no statement architecturally except "giant gymnasium".

that being said, i completely agree about turning it into a parking lot or parking deck. it's like once we "plug up" one part of the gulch, we uncover another part. the problem is that you've got so much dead space around downtown where there's retail stores available, but almost zero residential space. what they really should do is extend andrew young blvd (the road in front of the dome) over to magnolia street (which is how it was laid out before the dome was built), and build mixed-use retail and residential along the new street, where the dome used to be. with the size of the dome they're replacing, they could even build a large skyscraper on the south side of magnolia street.

i came up with this map to communicate my ideas a while back, this is basically what i mean:

What do we do after the dome is demolished? - Google Maps

i can see what you mean about preserving the roof, or part of the roof somehow as that's the only iconic thing about the structure... but i think turning it into a mall would be a bad idea.

Focus shifts to alternative site for new Falcons stadium (Atlanta Business Chronicle)

I'm glad to hear the Pantheon won't be crammed between AUC and Castleberry Hill! I can't wait to drive down Ivan Allen and see the new Birds' Nest high on that hill! Plus, the view of the skyline from the large window will still be amazing!

while i'm concerned that the stadium being located there will further isolate english avenue, the new open space between downtown and vine city, if kept out of the hands of the GWCC, could result in a great opportunity for a mixed-use development like atlantic station, that could transform downtown and vine city both.
