My husband just interviewed with an airline in Atlanta. If he does indeed get the job, we have already decided that we would like to move to the Atlanta area from the Tampa area. Ideally, we would like to be somewhere close to the Marta line so that my husband can take the train to work. Commuting by car is an option, but by train is best. We are thinking about renting to begin with--no more than $1100/month for a 3 bedroom. We might look into buying, but for now want to spend no more than $200K. We do have children, but we homeschool so school ratings aren't of utmost importance. Which towns/neighborhoods/subdivisions would be best for finding a decent-size house with a manageable airport commute? Also, I would love to be in a family-friendly neighborhood close to homeschool groups and possibly a Whole Foods or Trader Joes (we don't have either in Tampa).

Thank you in advance!

Just wanted to add, that upon further searching the forums here, I would be glad to also hear more specifically about:

Peachtree City (probably too expensive for us?) and/or Fayetteville

Are there even any good places that fit our budget along the Marta line? I've found lots of good talk about Sandy Springs/Dunwoody, but that's way out of our league.

Thank you again!

You are right, there really aren't any areas within your price range along a Marta line. Peachtree City and Fayetteville are both good options. Close to the airport and not too far from downtown, and he can ride Marta from College Park. On the downside, if you husband is working anywhere north of downtown the commute can get a little long. Also, there aren't any Whole Foods or Trader Joes south of I-20.

We live in Peachtree City and we homeschool too! We love it here. I know that you can find housing for about that amount depending on n'hood. Newer subdivisions go for about $2k a month, but older ones (Fairfield and Preston Chase) come close to your $. We also love Trader Joes. The closest one is in Midtown Atl (about 30 min away). There is a rumor that we are getting one, but nothing for sure yet!
