So I heard East Atlanta Village is the hipster haven of Atlanta. I'm from Long Island and plan on moving to the south. Where exactly is that area in Atlanta? How is the crime in the area? How much do rents tend to be? Is it really a cool place to live?

It's located just south of I-20 to the east of Moreland Avenue, where Flat Shoals Road intersects Metropolitan Avenue.

How is the safety? I read some places that said it's pretty sketch still. That area's around it are a bit rough. Some of these were from 2008 and 2009. Would a young couple with a newborn be able to make it during the day and during the night or is this still too up and coming for that?

What's your price limit? Decatur is just as much a hipster haven as East Atlanta, but it's more safe and established and better for a couple with a baby. Also check out Little Five Points. Good luck! I am in the process of researching cities myself.

Price point is hard to tell since I'm not quite sure the salaries. Probably 1k to 1500. Together we will make 100k roughly.

Any suggestions where in Decatur?

I would call Decatur more of a yuppie haven. A bunch of yuppies that probably used to be hipsters. If you want to be around hipsters, East Atlanta Village and Little Five Points* are definitely the areas you want to look at. Maybe even Old Fourth Ward. That's definitely turning into a hipster area, though it's probably the least safe of the three.

*Again...LITTLE Five Points.

Five Points is a completely different place than Little Five Points.

Look into Ormewood Park, Glenwood Park, Oakhurst, Kirkwood, and parts of Edgewood/Reynoldstown.

I live in North Ormewood Park which is across Moreland from East Atlanta Village. It's a decent neighborhood but some folks would consider it rough around the edges. Ormewood Park gets really nice south of Glenwood just about to Custer. North Ormewood is well on its way though with the brand new Glenwood Park development to the west. You may want to look into that for apartments. Houses surrounding the area rent from probably around $1200+.

Oakhurst is a cool little neighborhood about 10 minutes east of EAV. Kirkwood and Edgewood/Reynoldstown are probably the only ones out of the neighborhoods I've mentioned that could be considered sketchy and only in certain parts.

East-Atlanta has one of the only completely walkable club/bar districts in the metro. Go for it.
