Ehhh, I've never really based my tips just on how much I order and I usually tip the same where I order alcohol or not. I'm also a pretty decent tipper for good service having worked in the industry before. A lot of it has to do with how genuinely friendly the service is. I don't get the whole jaded attitude that these hipster waitresses(and it usually is a waitress at the Earl) have.

That could be the problem. You tip the same amount when you get a burger and a coke as you do when you order lobster and a bottle of wine?

I tip based on total cost. Not by number of drinks if that's what you were saying earlier.

And it doesn't really matter if I tip a penny. Servers are hired to do a job and their tips should reflect on how well they do it. Many of them don't understand this. I don't tip well to GET good service. I tip well as a RESULT of good service.

My point is, alcohol costs more than soft drinks or iced tea. More alcohol is consumed at night, resulting in higher tabs, resulting in better tips, resulting in beter morale and more incentive to provide good service.

Any server with common sense would already know that they'll probably make less money working a day shift in a district primarily known for nightlife. My point it, "get over it." Work your way up to the good nights or get another job that fits your sullen personality rather than being a half-a$$ server.
