That's just awful about not knowing where the redistricting lines for high school are going to be until afterwards. How does one buy a house when you think you're going to one high school and because of redistricting you might be going to another.

We'll be swimming all year around. Right now we swim for winter league team (sept-march) and in the summer (may-july) we swim for the neighbourhood/town team.

Someone mentioned Wayward Waves (Wayward Lake), Atlanta USA, or Dynamo Swim? What do people think.

sparklegirl - don't let the redistricting freak you out. It typically occurs because the schools are growing and they build a new school for overflow.

My sister lives in DoubleGate Subdivision in Johns Creek. She first moved there specifically for Chattahochee High. By the time her kids were in school, they went to Northview and while they were at Northview another high school was opened (Johns Creek?) It was optional for them to move schools. Each school was as good if not better than the the one before.

I live closer to Vinings where it was noted you can expect to send your kids to private school.

Thanx everyone. Yes my child swims year around. Need an elite swim team. Need a HS that has programs for the gifted. Want to live in a development where the houses aren't ontop of each other...very close to your neighbor. Quaint charming town. Somewhat easily accessible to Buckhead & Airport or marta to get to the airport. When will the redistricting be complete Alpharetta, Milton, Roswell. What are some subdivisions we could look at in Alpharetta / Milton / John's Creek within our price range? We'll be visiting in July, when the kids are out of school.

Meant...we don't want housing development where the houses are so close to you next door neighbor. We've seen developments where the houses are so close to each other and where you can see what your neighbor is doing in the backyard....we don't want that. we want some privacy. i know this sounds like a laundry list. hopefully there's some subdivision out there that has most of these things and we can compromise on other things. Schooling for the kids is paramount though. I want them to be happily situated in their new school.

There are developments in Milton that might work for you. The lots are a 1 acre minimum. A year ago your price range wouldn't have gotten you into this town, but things have changed. I would get a good realtor who could direct you to a particular neighborhood. The lots are not always as large in Roswell or Alpharetta, but those are good options too. Any of the high schools (Milton, Bethany Bend, Roswell) will be well-regarded.

I forgot to add: there isn't really a "gifted" program in the high schools, but there is something called TAG (talented and gifted), that is really a seminar/self directed research program. What you will have, and what we liked better, are many AP classes and college dual-enrollment opportunities. My youngest graduated Milton after dual-enrolling at GA Tech, and started college with 42 credit hours.

Default Smoke Rise Community

Check out FMLS #4075320 Takes about 30 minutes to get to airport, easy access to freeway, but feels like a resort nestled in a natural environment, with all the bells and whistles. Very nice, safe community with good schools, easy access to most everything (central location), cycling, about 3 major golf courses within 3 mins. Good mix of retired professionals and mid-age professionals.

my husband just came back from atlanta and looked around quickly. he toured cummings. there isn't much of a downtown but the lots are big and cheaper housing. what do you all think? also, he said the schools in that area of cummings got good ratings in some sort of magazine ranking. i'm not necessarily convinced. he liked alpharetta as well. i'm now thinking of alpharetta, milton and roswell from what you all are saying. we're going to go in early august now.
