Hi-new here to this board and I have been offered a job in Alpharetta/Roswell and one in Norcross (right off 285). I would be living in Acworth /maybe Town Lake area (b/c of husband's work). If I took the job in Alpharetta I would most likely take Hwy. 92 (or even Arnold Mill), and if I accepted the position in Norcross I would either have to take 75S, 285E or Hwy 92/Holcomb Bridge all the way to P'tree. They are similar positions, so it might come down to the commute. Can ANYONE offer advice on either of these possible commutes?? The Alpharetta location is about 25 miles, while the Norcross is about 35, but would 10 miles make much difference? Both are flexible with work hours.
Please help!
Thanks.

I-75 to I-285 would be a nightmare for commuting, and then driving across I-285 would be another adventure. Ditto for the return commute.

To me, it seems like the Alpharetta job may be better for you, commute wise, but I am not familiar with commuting on Hwy 92.

To give an idea of the Hwy 92 commute it would routinely take anywhere from 45 min to 1 hr 15 min or so. It is full of traffic lights, new subdivisions, and new construction and complete stop and go all the way. So, in some ways it seems 75S, 285E may be easier, but I am not familiar with the drive.

Can anyone give an approximation of the time to get from Acworth to 285 (going south of 75), then 285 E to P'tree in the AM, then reverse in the afternoon? What time would I have to leave to make it bearable?

Thanks.

No idea about the Acworth-to-285 route, though I imagine it's nasty. I have several coworkers who live in Acworth and commute to the Roswell/Alpharetta border. One arrives at the office at 7:00am and leaves at 4:00pm. He says this keeps his commute at 2 hours a day. He works from home on Thursdays and once said the big joy of it is that he gets to sleep late.

Living in Acworth may let you get a big house with a yard for $250K, but make no mistake about it -- a decent bit of how you live your life will be dictated by commute considerations.
