Can anyone tell me how long it would take with traffic? We're considering a home in Fieldstone. Is it worth driving to the closest Marta station and taking the train in? How long would it take...? Thanks!

Depends on what part of Atlanta you are talking about? If you are talking about downtown Atlanta, it would take you forever as in a good 1.5hrs or longer. If you are talking just to Buckhead, you are probably talking about 45mins to an hour.

Here's a link to MARTA stations:
http://www.itsmarta.com/getthere/schedules/index-rail.htm (broken link)

The closest station, imo is Doraville--which would not help you.
Others will have more FYI but to commute from North Atlanta to Downtown by MARTA it is better to reside in the NW quadrant.

I think you would have to leave by 5:30 AM to travel from Cumming to Downtown and then head home by 3PM. I85N is incredibly congested and road construction will not be completed for ??years. Go To : Georgia Navigator--traffic site and review their FYI.

Many, many people find it worthwhile to commute in this manner.

Just correct something. The closest MARTA is north Spring station. Still, even with new lane open in GA400, if I were you, I won't even try it. I used to work in downtown. People tend to live in Alphratta/Roswell border at the worst. Normally, it takes 35 mins to train station from Alpharatta. Then takes another 35 mins train to downtown. I can not even image the time you need to get from Cumming. As more and more people move to Cumming area, traffic will only get worse and worse.

Default North Springs Station/Cumming

I know there must be routes from Cumming to Alpharetta/North Springs---and I was certain someone would provide this FYI...

Posters that are considering a move to Atlanta would probably need someone who knew the area well to help them find the back roads or understand what sort of rapid transit we have.

--I85N is the most direct route from dowtown to Cumming. And what a horror it is!

Actually GA400 is the fastest and most direct route from Cumming to Atlanta. There are back roads but because they are also congested staying on a limited access freeway like 400 will get you into town much faster. That said the commute from Cumming to Atlanta would be awful. I agree with about 1.5 hours to DT using MARTA.

Default Cumming

Yes--I suppose the way to/from Cumming is 400.

I85N is horrible--Peachtree Industrial?? 141 equally horrible.

It seems like 'Haynes Bridge, State Bridge, Medlock Bridge' Rds run from Alpharetta to Cumming---just awful anytime I venture out.

We live in Cumming, and my husband commutes to Duluth. It takes approx 45minutes. It is mostly because State Bridge Road and Medlock Bridge Road are so congested.

400 is the most direct route to downtown from Cumming. 85 is not even readily accessible from Cumming and there are not really back roads that would save time during rush hour for such a long commute.

Depending on your work hours you could make it work. An early morning commute isn't so bad but evening rush hour starts at 4 and will go until 7 - 7:30 and can be horrible.

Cumming to downtown? Maybe if you work the graveyard shift. One of my co-workers lives in Cumming and it takes him 25-30 min just to get to Alpharetta (exit 9).
