Hello,

I am considering moving to the Atlanta area and need some advice. I have 2 bi-racial children and we currently live in Montgomery County, MD. I have grown tired of the DMV (been here my whole life) and am need of a change. I would also like to move to an area that is multicultural and that does not have too much racism. I would like to move into a area that has a mix of the city and suburbs and where I can also transfer my buisnesses ( I own a child care service, boutique and hair salon. Can someone please reccomend the best areas that I should consider? Thanks !

yea i wouldnt move to those areas with a biracial family. asians and whites are not the most tolerant people. i would look at college park and clayton county areas. even though blacks are not the most welcoming to biracial couples either

Try Decatur(city)
Avondale Estates/Scottsdale-My best friend sense high school is African American with a German wife. They live here in a nice neighborhood that is very diverse.A friend of his is Asian American with a African American girlfriend.he all live close to this are.East Atlanta is very diverse, progressive and affordable.Within 15 minutes to downtown.

Norcross is also a good area.

Avoid College Park and any part of Clayton County. I assume you want both white and black cultures for your children. Clayton is predominantly black and as stated earlier, black folks can be just as intolerant of bi racial kids and marriages as whites.

growing up in predominately black neighborhoods for pretty much my entire life, i have never witnessed biracial children being intolerated. there may be the occasional teasing from kids (which is a part of growing up), but it's not like the adults will be causing trouble. think about how many light-skinned and biracial blacks there are in atlanta.

but maybe it's different over there, but of the friends and family i have that are from atlanta, they've never expressed any of these ideas

Moniquecheree you may want to look into multicultural cities that "skirt" Atlanta. I'd start with these first:
1. Lawrenceville - Gwinnett county. It's not exactly close to Atlanta (25-60 minutes depending on where you live and how much traffic!) but will accommodate you and your children. Great mixture of Hispanics, East Indians, Africans and Asians.
2. Tucker - Dekalb County. Tucker High School has a great mixture of Hispanics, blacks, and whites.
3. Norcross - Gwinnett County. Predominately Hispanics with whites and blacks.

As far as Duluth goes (Fulton county & Gwinnett county), it just depends where. Closer out towards Suwanee or Alpharetta area of Duluth near Fulton county side, I would say NO. However, if you live anywhere around Gwinnett Mall, Satellite Blvd, Beaver Ruin, Buford Hwy, Pleasant Hill which is the Gwinnett county side then you should be ok.

Why are people suggesting she live way out in the suburbs? Jeeze, this why traffic and sprawl is so bad here.
