What? I would not put my child in a school where 25% of the students don't meet expectations. Can a child thrive there? Yes. I came from similar circumstances... but why would you put your kid in such an environment if you have choices?

Because test scores don't tell the whole story.

"Leper colony" mentality does not do society any bit of good...and you should know better, vsmoove.

Supermom,
Some posters on here have never met a school that they will not give rave reviews to. Trust me, if you are looking for excellent schools that are close to downtown stick with Morningside, Mary Lin, Springdale or City of Decatur. You are looking at a 5-10% failure rate in math and science vs. 25-40% in grades 3-5. Why put your kids in that kind of environment if you have a choice? If you put your kids in a school where a large number of kids and parents don't value education it can rub off on them very quickly. It really is the biggest no-brainer in history.

Supermom2,

Some posters on here have severe prejudices against certain populations and thus certain types of schools. Moreover, some posters on here have never set foot inside a school and are instead relying on arbitrary "data" to make invalid points and inaccurate evaluations.

I suggest you click on a poster's name (top left of each post) and then select "Find all posts by..." in order to see the motivation and true views of the posters on here.

You can be very happy (and satisfied) in the Camp Creek Area.

Math and science CRCT scores are arbitrary data? That is the most laughable assertion I have seen in a while. I don't know about you, but those are things I want my kids to master. And my kids CRCT scores are off the charts. Trust me, stick with Morningside or Decatur if you value excellence close to downtown. They are as close to excellent as you will find in a public school.

Amen!

I am in the Camp Creek area myself and yes, I do have some concerns, however when I look at the history of these schools and the challenges that they have overcome and what they have been able to accomplish, I am proud. They are doing WELL IN SPITE of how we get stiffed down here in South Fulton and despite how all the resources get funnelled into N. Fulton instead of us.

We are comfortable down here in S. Fulton and not willing to move way the heck to the Northside or midtown and pay all that money for less house than we have now. A child's performance has a lot to do with not just the school and the teachers but the PARENTS MOST IMPORTANTLY. I don't care what 25% of children are NOT doing. For me and mine, our expectations will be high and it is our job as PARENTS to make sure they meet them.

To other posters, please consider that the OP asked about schools IN CAMP CREEK AREA. They didn't ask about buckhead/midtown/east cobb or anything else.

Good post.

And I like how you emphasized that the poster was inquiring about the Camp Creek Area.

She was asking how Camp Creek schools COMPARE. They may have many excellent qualities but if a quarter of a given school fails these mind numbingly simple tests, it's hard to say the overall school is 'excellent'. I get your point, Aries... I dig you 100% but let's answer the question based on the reality of the situation and not based on other concerns (which are valid).

vsmoove,

Love the nick; that was 1 of my nicknames growing up. :-)

Disagree with you, though, about the OP wanting a comparison. But at the end of the day, it's the OP who has to respond with whether she got what she was looking for or not because this entire thread has just turned into people arguing about things that she didn't ask for.

I guess we all have nothing better to do.

I'm going to bed. :-)

But that's the point, vsmoove...

A school can be excellent if a certain amount of students score a certain way...you don't know how far those students have come and where they started from.

A school in an affluent, culturally homogenous area may have students that score well, but it does not mean the school is "excellent."
