If you could prove, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that there was no god, would you?
I think I would to some, but not all, and certainly not the whole world!
Proving a negative is rather hard, thats like asking you to prove to me that little invisible pixies do not exist in the uk. It would require you to look at every inch of land, under every rock, inside every shoe and even then you couldn't say because they supposedly are invisible.
The burden of proof is always on the ones making the claim. If some random stranger says that he is your real dad then you sure as hell wont assume that it must be true until shown otherwise. As it stands, there is zero objective evidence that a god exists so logically there is no reason for anyone to take god as a priori.
I don't think you could ever prove that God did not exist but allowing for that concept being a possibility, yes of course the truth should be taught and spread. I know it would hurt a lot of people so one would have to be respectful about it and I would hope that the void left behind in some people's lives could be filled with a positive alternative.
If someone could prove to me there was a God I would be more than happy to accept it, and raise my hands in the air saying "mea culpa", admitting I had been wrong.
The truth is the truth. The truth can in the short term hurt and sociologically it would certainly upset a few apple-carts but surely no-one should be left in the dark simply because it will cause people to re-assess and revaluate their whole belief systems and the way they live.
I think the repercussions in the long term could be severely negative but we owe it to our great shared humanity to be intellectually honest.
No society should ever based on a philosophical lie. That is just not healthy.
We have this amazing power of reason and thought and are not little porcelain dolls to be shielded from the truth simply because it might be a tad uncomfortable or embarrassing.

The fundamental problem is that nonexistance can't be "proven" because there's no evidence for anything that doesn't exist. Think about it. Existence can be proven, but nonexistence can't be proven.
No one can prove that giant invisible forest gnomes don't exist. But anyone claiming they "know" the gnomes are there in the forest has the burden of proof.

Folks generally like to "know" things for themselves.
If I could I would. Not that i think it would make any difference. Even with absolute proof there would still be people who would refuse to stop believing.

Well...it's not possible to prove the non-existance of anything.
Now, if you revised your question to say "Would you make it so that everyone finally realized that god is an imaginary construct?" Then I would say yes, I would if I could.
That's a little misleading, because "nonreligious" doesn't necessarily mean one doesn't believe in God.
So I was a little disappointed to open this thread. I can't answer your question because I do believe in God. But I am entirely nonreligious...I can't think of a single religious organization I'd like to join.
IMO, being non religious is a very good thing..religions are manmade..to suit mans pride in his having the real truth...
