I don't think it's only in the Philippines that the name was changed to Magellan. A lot of names in earlier history had been translated to different versions in different languages. Columbus is actually Colombo in Italian and Colon in Spanish. Most names from the Bible and the names of saints have different versions in different languages, and earlier historical figures often have their names "translated". Most English books will use King Philip of Spain instead of King Felipe. It is only in recent times that they mostly use the original names for monarchs. Papal names are still translated though. Pope John Paul is officially Ioannes Paulus (Latin) but can be written as Giovanni Paulo, Juan Pablo, Joao Paulo, Johannes Paul, Jean-Paul, etc. in various languages.
But he was a very important person in our history as he was the one who discovered the Philippines and other Spanish colonizers that had longer names were not changed. We know about King Felipe because that's where Philippines came , it was called " Felipinas " before from King Felipe of Spain.
I am not much into names being translated into English. I prefer the original names.
First of all, they should close down the roads and prohibit cars like some squares in Spain.
I heard they are trying to talk to the land owners because there are some people around Intramuros that has a lot and some of these people are renting the place which I hope it will push through and they will agree.
Original Puente de España built in 1630-1914,
in 1916 they rebuilt and expand the bridge
so streetcar and trucks may passed the bridge
Jones Bridge rebuilt in 1916, I like those statue added. So it was American time when they added those statues
but I hope they rebuilt it the way it used to be after it was damaged during 1945
The Bridge is still there but not the way it looks to be. It used to be the Elegant bridge in Manila

I didn't know we have a bridge with statues. I always criticise our bridges in the Philippines because of they're quite plain, this one is lovely.. Looks like the bridge in Paris with statues
Puente de Espana sounds better and posh than Jones Bridge that sounds ordinary.
