No, the country was not ruled through Mexico, but there was an annual galleon saling from Manila to Acapulco during several centuries. Chinese merchants used the galleon to export their wares to Spanish America.
Of course, not closer ties with Mexico since Spain was there until 1898. In fact, the Spanish presence was important until 1943 or so.
I guess that some Flipinos are Hispanic, others are Chinese, etc.
in tagalog there are also plenty of spanish words: cuchara, all the numbers, puerta, guapo, sabado, gracias, etc.
They have two ways of saying numbers. Spanish numbers and the Tagalog numbers. I believe everyone who speaks Tagalog (I'm using it to mean technically Pilipino since that's what my husband's family calls it) knows both ways of saying the numbers. I know that Tagalog and Pilipino are two different languages, but usually out here the national language is referred to as Tagalog.

Yes it was administered via Mexico for a few hundred years. Look it up.Spanish prescence was gone in 1898. They walked away. Dunno where u got 1943... That was the Japanese occupation. I have many years of studying philippine history in Manila
Not in the Manila I grew up in. In what instances did u hear spanish numbers?
My husband grew up in Quezon City, and used both Spanish numbers and Filipino numbers according to him. I just asked him about it, and he says it's an Ilocano people thing.
