Like Detroit? No jobs, no pride, VERY cold.

I'll take Bullhead.

Wonder if the OP ever moved here, or if he's still here after the 120 degree summer! LOL

No BHC doesn't have many scorpions. Keep your house clean, and yard free of weeds and brush and anything that can attract bugs. I spray our whole yard a couple of times a year with bug killer and we have never had a problem. I don't know about trailers, I'd probably have a bug proof skirt.

Mohave Valley, where there's lots of agriculture, bugs and little critters, is full of snakes and scorpions. They like it where they is food and water. Remove both and you remove the problem.

As for civic pride - all that takes is some people caring about the place they live. Unfortunately Bullhead seems to attract a lot of low life types, and the out of state slum lords suck the money and life out of the town and put nothing back.

Well, you could always work at one of the Casinos across the river in Laughlin, Nevada if you lived in bullhead City.

My wife and I are considering a business opportunity in BHC. We have 2 questions:

1. Are there good road bike trails in or near BHC? If not, how far to a good biking trail?
2. Are there lap pools available to lap swim there?

I've read quite a bit about BHC from all of the comments and have a feel for the pros and cons mentioned and I've also researched the CD information. I'll be visiting later this month, any recommendations on hotels to stay at in BHC or Laughlin?

Thanks

Where are you moving from in Washington? Wanna swap houses?

Good bike trails, no. Any bike trails? Almost no. Some desert trail riding. The only people other than kids that I see riding bikes are 40 year old meth heads and people with too many DUI's.

PS - Just remembered - there IS a bike trail. It runs from the Riverside hotel over Laughlin's 2 million dollar pedestrian bridge to nowhere then along a trail (I think paved) up a couple of miles to the dam and back.

Lap pools - yes, it's called the River. You swim upstream. Seriously, it works pretty good in the summer when the water is warmer, if a jet ski doesn't run you down.

The city has a nice pool which is only open in the summer - wish it was open year round.

Hotels - best to stay in Laughlin all BHC has I'm sorry to say are transient hotels ad one marginal Best Western. The Edgewater Casino in Laughlin purportedly has newly renovated rooms, though I haven't seen them. The riverfront suites at the Aquarius are by far the best location in town and are my personal recommendation but their pool is lousy. Harrah's has the best pools (2), if they are open, followed by the Ramada (sorry- Tropicana... old habits die hard).

Why would I want to trade houses to come to a town without bike trails and lap swimming only during the summer that is entirely peopled by bike riding meth heads?...lol Actually, I'm not sure about selling my house that I've spent over $100K in upgrades this past year.

Thanks for the information Jamies. I'm planning to see it myself in the next few weeks...based on many of the CD posts, expectations aren't running that high so the opportunity will have to be good to make the move.

What do you need bike trails for with a road bike? Road bikes are for riding on the road. Places with bike trails are usually urban environments where they want bikers off the roads. I've also seen bike trails in coastal areas so that you can bicycle through sand dunes near the sea (Cape Cod and Monterrey come to mind.) There are lots of low-traffic roads through the deserts where you can bike, and some are darn scenic. Plus there are mountain passes if you get tired of riding in the flats. You will get used to riding against headwinds in the desert, just like you are used to riding in rain and mist in the PNW. Keep in mind that summer temps in Bullhead are usually well over 100F and too hot for casual bicycling for most folks.

You might considering living in Kingman and commute to Bullhead (about 40 mins). It's generally 10-15F cooler in the summer in Kingman and there are some decent long roads to ride on out into the desert. There's a really great hill climb out of town that climbs some 3,000' up Mt. Hualapai. I biked year-round in Kingman when I lived in the area. There's abundant mountain biking to be had as well and some amazing scenery. The Wellness Center is a health club at the Kingman Regional Medical Center which has an excellent indoor lap pool open year round. I lived in Kingman with my family for five years. I never lived in BHC, but went there often. It's my perception the riff-raff is less scary in Kingman than in BHC. On the other hand, I can tell you that there are nice neighborhoods and quality people to be found in both towns. The meth heads are easy to avoid as long as you're not in their economic strata and forced to have them as neighbors.

They can't keep Chiropractors either.

I see you have never been there. Any offer of a business opportunity in the area needs looked at closely.
