Very cool way to check out a sampling of the local grocery prices. Thanks for the post. TexaninGeorgia after you click on the website run the slide show. It enlarges the pictures and you can see all the prices.

Thank you for this. We just compared it to our pricing and it wasn't as scary as I remembered (lived in ANC in the 90's) About 15% higher than the Jewel here in Chicago (Watermelon and the home pride bread were both off the charts though)

This was very helpful as we are deciding between Seattle and moving back to Anchorage - current hubby has never lived either place so this pricing is great for him to see.

What a great post. This will give us all the information we need since we were a little skeptical about the cost of living, in particular the grocery prices to begin with. We will move once Andy's employment contract is signed. If you have any other helpful tips let us know.

I am also a part of the bizymoms Anchorage community and know other moms there who would love this post. Feel free to post your comments www.bizymoms.com/anchorage/index.php

Not as bad as I would have thought. Milk runs $3.50 or so here, bread 2.99 -3.99. Deli meet at Wally World is even up to $6.99 and apples are $1.49lb. Soda would be my downfall. I pay 3.88/12 pack for diet coke (when it's not on sale) and bought diet pepsi last week for $1.98 a 12 pack. Thanks for sharing the link

On average, looks like prices are about 20-30% higher than here in the SouthEast. Meat, milk, chips, coffee look to be about the same as here- the exceptions being soft drinks (I'd have to give up my Dr Pepper habit for sure!) and produce! $8 for a WATERMELON??? WOW!
I really like the link, very insightful for all of us future temporary transplants!

Walmart will be finishing up on a Super Walmart that will include groceries in South Anchorage this fall. This may have some impact on grocery prices. The competition is welcomed.
