Costco sounds great for some staples we will need, but may I ask what items such as small alarm clocks, small hairdryers, power strips etc go for in Anchorage? I would love to be able to buy those there instead of trying to cart them over from Australia, especially since I can then buy US power friendly items and not have to worry about converters and transformers! Perhaps even clothing? We will be there in mid September, so do you think the Super Walmart may be completed by then?

I was just at Walmart and they said the grocery area would be open sometime in October. Power strips were $8-10. There's currently no sales tax in Anchorage so you may want to consider that too. We are going to Sydney in November and am doing the reverse. Just looked at converters and electrical plug adapters.
