There's a new, craft whiskey here in Savannah called Savannah 88 Bourbon. Since it is made in GA, I'm not sure why its called bourbon, but anyway, its good for something different.
Maker's Mark is my favorite, but we drink the cheap stuff in Manhattans (Kentucky Tavern).

Default A good bourbon in the $30 range

I've been getting into quality bourbon thanks to my dad, and I'm thinking about starting a collection. I want to pick up a good fifth today. What bourbons do you recommend in the $30 range?

They sold out all 400 tickets. Great evening. A bit of sensory overkill but lot's of fun.

My only disappointment was by the time we found out about a tasting of 3 Pappy Van Winkles for 20.00 they had already sold out

Favorites for the evening was Bulleit 10 Year Old, Blanton's and Jack Daniels Single Barrel

Ditto the Bulleit and Four Roses. Dickel recipe 12 is another. Knob Creek not so much.

Not sure what the prices are around you, but some nice bourbons I can get in the $25-35 range are Jefferson's, Elijah Craig, Maker's and Buffalo Trace. These would be good ones to taste and become familiar with, since they're commonly available and many people will use them as references when talking about bourbon. You may also want to spend a bit more and spring for some Basil Hayden or Angel's Envy.
