Yesterday, I just arrived from my trip from Puerto Rico, and noticed that all security lanes at the Albuquerque International Sunport now have the L-3 ProVision millimeter wave scanners.
Previously only the rightmost lane had one. I actually used it when I went to Puerto Rico, as it had the shortest line. But now on my upcoming trip to Norfolk, VA this Tuesday, I will probably be forced to use one of the machines now.
The L-3 ProVision millimeter wave scanner is one of two body scanning machines being used by the TSA (the other being the Rapiscan Systems backscatter X-ray machine). These machines have replaced the previous explosive detection ("puffer") machines, which have been taken out of service due to malfunctions and false alarms.
Thanks for posting that, I was trying to figure out what they were using when I was traveling a couple months ago (through Puerto Rico as it turns out) and couldn't find out what technology we are getting online. For some reason I feel much safer with the millimeter wave scans than the x-ray. Probably because I know if the x-ray messes up bad things can happen, but I don't know what happens some bug occurs with the mm scans.

SJU doesn't have body scanners yet (at least not in Terminal B), however, I wouldn't be surprised if they get them eventually, considering they once had the puffer machines there.
I wonder if they will be the L-3 ProVision millimeter wave scanners or the Rapiscan Systems backscatter X-ray scanners. Perhaps they will first be introduced in the new Terminal A (which I heard will be used by Delta and US Airways), currently scheduled to open in October.
I thought they sped up security because they scanned your body… That's why i was for them…
Well, perhaps this means that you won't have to go through a pat down anymore since it scans your entire body all at once. So maybe you are right in a way.
