I try'd searching this, but didn't come up with anything that seemed related. How are people who live off grid in remote locations doing laundry? Especially in the winter. Seems like you would have to use a generator....wash boards might be an option....I guess. Rather than wonder about it, I figured I'd just ask.

There are a lot of laundry places around, with showers.

Ya! Maybe it is a dumb question, I just couldn't see myself with a bucket of water sitting on the stove and an wash board.

Depends how remote you are and how much laundry you have. I remember my mom using a washboard, and then she graduated to a gas powered ringer washer. My dad has movies of her hanging clothes on the line in snowshoes.

That washing machine had a kick start...I thought that was pretty cool.

When I lived by myself I generally only had a few clothes of my own and I just washed them in a tub or bucket. Swish em, rub em, rinse em, wring em. Then hang em.

There are some bushrats that I have visited and you would swear that they had never heard the term laundry, much less the word shower... When you walk into their cabin, the stench is like someone hitting you in the face with a flat shovel...

But there is a host of way to wash clothes in the Bush, like Marty said, put them in a tub and "Swish 'em". But some have 12V Washing machines, some run them on Generators, others have a solar bank and batteries with a 12V inverter system that makes 110 VAC to run a washing machine... and some will just have a pile of clothes that act as a compost pile until they make the trip into town and make it to a laundry.

You can find just about anything from a scale of "Scales (as in fish) to Godlyness (spotlessly clean)" in the Bush, but that can apply to the city folks too.

You live the way you want, I like being at the upper end of clean, can't stand myself after a few days of no shower or clean clothes, but have had to go a lot longer at times.... But you know you are really bad when the Ravens start to circle you because they figure you are just about dead from the smell....

any kind of basin with warm/hot water and some soap will do. wash them, then rinse them, then dry them. it's a fairly simple process.

I figured someone had to make something for this and here it is. Now this I could do.
There were times, in the Army, where I had to wash from a bucket and the cloths just never seemed to really get clean.

When I lived way out in the boonies in my floathouse I used a 5-gallon bucket and a toilet plunger for small stuff and a washtub & toilet plunger for sheets & such. And yup, I actually rinsed my clothes in the creek. For blankets etc. I waited for a trip to town.
