The area is great for growing weed.

And...when I lived in the upper Su, lots of people referred to Wasilla in unfavorable terms and white drugs were a factor in that. It was personal observation and nothing to do with stats et al. There is a very strong feeling in the music community in Talkeetna that the bluegrass festival that they founded has been literally ruined by methheads from the lower valley coming up for it. I never really got it as it doesn't seem that that would be their type of music; perhaps to them it was just another party and the music was secondary or less.

So you're saying that the troopers who first gave Wasilla that designation are lying? Because that's exactly where the nickname came from.

Hmmm... the number of meth labs seized statewide by the Alaska State Troopers Alaska Bureau of Alcohol and Drug Enforement in 2007 was 11. The number of those in the Mat-Su area was 6.

That is according to the ABADE 2007 Annual Drug Report.

You need to fabricate statistics that are not so easy to disprove.

I agree. Bluegrass & meth seem to be polar opposites.

In 2007, we have seen a drop in the number of meth labs discovered in Alaska. However,
the meth labs discovered continue to be present in single and multi-family residences in
many neighborhoods. In addition to meth labs producing illegal, often deadly drugs, the
clandestine nature of the manufacturing process and the presence of ignitable, corrosive,
reactive, and toxic chemicals at the sites, have resulted in explosions, fires, toxic fumes,
and irreparable damage to human health and to the environment. Yearly since 2002, meth
labs were discovered in hotel/motel rooms. Frequently children are found residing in meth
lab sites and many continue to live in dangerous environments. Loaded firearms are also
frequently found at these meth labs, which increases the danger to children living in these
residences.

Have any stories like these ever been published in the Wasilla newspaper?

What has been quoted here is about as current as that sort of statistic is likely to get.

After all from Glitch's link it can be inferred that POW was the center of meth production in Southeast in 2005 simply because it is the only city in Southeast to be included in the list of discovered labs.
Look, that is just aburd. Glitch might make inferences like that, but no reasonable person does. When you have only one data point it means nothing, and claiming otherwise is aburd. When you have more than 1/3rd of all State meth stats pointing at the Mat-Su Valley it is absurd to claim there is no significance.

Well, drug capital of Alaska or not, not a part of the state I care to spend any time in anyways...too many people, among other things, for my tastes.

I agree. But some people will probably take that aberration & run with it.
I wish there were some current statistics to show whether Wasilla is still #1 or whether the title has passed on. I wonder why there isn't a meth festival? I'm sure that some pretty young thing would love to be crowned Meth Queen.

[quote=Floyd_Davidson;8321162]False. Your cited list (at 29 of them) is not a list of all known places where drugs have been manufactured in Alaska. That is a grossly erroneous interpretation of a valid set of facts. First, consider that Metlakatla posted a quote citing a Trooper saying there had been more than 40 meth sites located in that area in just one year (2004).[quote]

Obviously the news article is in error. Naturaly, you would believe such lies and dismiss what the law actually requires. After all, according to you nobody who lives within an hour flight of Anchorage is an Alaskan.

Why couldn't there be 29 in 5 years? Just because it isn't as big of a number as you would like? Sorry to spoil your warped sense of reality, but 29 is all the meth labs that have been reported statewide in the last five years, whether you like it or not. Unlike your precious newspaper source, which can report any number they want, Alaska law requires local law enforcement to be accurate.

It should be very easy to understand why the Alaska State Troopers call the Mat-Su "the drug capital of Alaska".
At least you can cite the article correctly, which is obviously more than Metlakatla is capable.

As I pointed out to you before, the State Troopers never made any such claim. It is entirely your hatred blinding you to reality. From the article YOU posted:

Quote:
Troopers dub Mat-Su area the meth capital of Alaska

WASILLA - The Matanuska-Susitna area is the methamphetamine capital of Alaska, according to Alaska State Troopers.

Source: Juneau Empire Story Archive
The article YOU posted clearly demonstrates that you are a deliberate liar. Wasilla was never named capital of anything.
