My husband is scheduled for a fishing trip to Alaska next summer (for Salmon). Does anyone know what type of fishing equipment he will need. He was searching on ebay for a fly rod and reel combo for Salmon Fishing. Any suggestions on length and weight of rod and reel? Any particlular brand better than others?

It depends on what kind of Salmon he's fishing for. I have a 10wt 9.6 foot G-Loomis with a STH Disc drag reel with sinking tip line, this works good for Kings. For Silver Salmon I have a 9foot 8wt Pfluger flyrod with a STH reel also. One of these days I'll either get a Orvis or a Sage flyrod, these are pretty much top of the line rods.

I have also had good luck with the LLBean stuff, responsive, cast smoothly. Also a 9' 8wt, mostly use on Largemouth Bass around here
