That is the price of living in the country. Birmingham, Montgomery, Mobile, and Huntsville have street lights.

I don't like light pollution everywhere. I like dark night skies.
Missing the Dark: Health Effects of Light Pollution (http://ehp.niehs.nih.gov/members/2009/117-1/focus.html - broken link)
Also, if the lighting can be improved (eg how those horrible blue halogen car lights are legal is beyond me):
EHP 117-1, 2009: Switch on the Night: Policies for Smarter Lighting (http://ehp.niehs.nih.gov/realfiles/docs/2009/117-1/spheres-abs.html - broken link)

But this will not happen in many places in the US, and definitely not in Alabama.

bluebeard - this IS happening in Alabama - Huntsville is re-evaluating City Ordinances to balance public safety and dark skies. We already have light emission limits for commercial / industrial facilities. The City is looking at ways to restrict light 'pollution' in City properties and commercial / residential / industrial ordinances (part cost-savings, part 'smart' lighting, part conservation, part aesthetics). HSV has a City Park (Hays Preserve) that is leading the 'dark skies' movement.

We like to look at the stars.

I wear glasses. And it still doesn't help the other car's lights literally blinding me. There should just be street lights on the roads. Who cares about "light pollution"? There's nothing to see at night. Not like you can see anything in total darkness anyway.

I get the feeling HappyEndings doesn't like anywhere that's not urban, no matter the state.

Neither is having people with bad vision driving.
An automobile is heavy machinery. If you cannot see clearly you should not be allowed an operating license for it.
