Yes. It helps a lot to give the mod a link to the thread to find the post in question, or, if the poster's thread was deleted, describe what the thread was about, and which forum it was in.

As per contacting a moderator via DM about this type of problem, or any other really, are there some moderators who do not reply to DM? I thought that I noticed a reference to that being the case for a couple of moderators.
If so, that would explain why I did not receive a reply from a senior moderator last summer when I needed help with a problem.

Regular moderators are not obliged to reply to every message but they usually do, if you ask politely. As to senior moderators, we always read the messages, only sometimes decide not to engage in debates. However, if you say it was in summer, please, take into account that we may have been on vacation.

Yeah you can ask them, but usually it says why in your past posts in the space of the post that was deleted.
