I have posted pictures in posts before, but only ones I already had uploaded online onto Facebook. But I want to post picture right from my computer (without going onto facebook).

Also, what are these image host sites (like photobucket which was mentioned)? Do you have to join them first? Is there a cost? Don't you worry about privacy? I'd rather not have to join something else...

Isn't there just a way I can take a picture right from my computer and insert it in a post??????
Yes you can upload one directly as an Attachment. Click on the paper clip and follow the prompts. Look at the attachment I uploaded here.

An image host is on line storage of image files. Many are free.
Use a google search for image hosts. there are many free ones. Even when you are posting an image directly from you computer you are using this site as an image host.

My issue was the insert picture function required a URL, and pictures on my hard drive do not have a URL. the paperclip attachemnt option only posts tiny little thumb nail pictures. I just tried the photo album thing, and it worked. I wish I'd known abotu that before!!!! I had thought the phot albums people had were just to put pictures in their profile.

that works also.

I use an image host because I have an online store and need to save photos of the stusff I sell. I have over 1000 albums on photobucket some for commercial and some for my personal use. I keep most of them private and only have a few open for public viewing.

Most of the image hosts are quite secure and no less dangerous than having them on your computer and being online. the major names I know are

Photobucket
Ranchoweb
Imageshack
Flickr

I have used all 4 and had no problems. Flickr seems to be a little more secure that the other three and do block any attempts at hot linking. However, I allow hotlinking to my public files so that is not a concern for me.
