Over 35 million domestic travelers, more than half from the Mid-­Atlantic region, visit the Greater Philadelphia area each year, generating more than $25 million per day, according to the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation (GPTMC). Over the past decade, Philadelphia has experienced a 36 percent increase in total visitors and 63 percent more leisure travelers.

More than 80 percent of visitors to Philadelphia said they came for fun. For the past 6 years, Center City Philadelphia’s Saturday night hotel occupancy has been more than 80 percent higher than that of Baltimore, Boston, and Washington, DC.

But don’t worry, Philly has plenty of room—or should I say rooms—for everyone. You’ll find them in the context of pretty much any accommodation ambience you prefer, whether it’s a world-­class upscale or economy hotel, gracious historic home, or intimate bed-­and-­breakfast. And don’t assume that visiting a big city like Philadelphia requires a big bankroll. There are awesome overnight oases to fit any budget.

Unless otherwise stated, the listed hotels herein have at least a few wheelchair-­accessible rooms, complimentary off-­street parking, free wireless Internet, fitness center, and are nonsmoking properties. Pet-­friendly accommodations will be noted.

Accommodations

Whether in the middle of the city or in the heart of the country, on the deck of a steamboat moored on its own private lake, a romantic hideaway for two or a family-­size vacation accommodation, there’s a place for any preference and price in Pennsylvania Dutch Country.

Most hotels, motels, and other accommodations prohibit smoking. I will specify the ones that do allow it. Same for pets. Wireless Internet is generally included in the room rate.

Accommodations - Campgrounds & Cabins

For some people, camping is a chance to air out the old tent and pitch it in a beautiful spot under the stars or to rough it in a primitive log cabin. To others, it’s a comfortable road trip in a fully appointed RV. Some apply the term camping to accommodations that range from quaint cottages to amenity-­loaded resorts. The only key factor that seems to define the camping experience for all is an abundance of opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors. Many facilities are pet-­friendly when it comes to their tent and RV sites but not in cabins or cottages.

Campers can find facilities open year-­round. Rates range by type of site and time of year, so please call for specifics.
