Media

The Pikes Peak region is like a lot of the US: Newspapers are struggling; news comes from national and online sources; and local radio competes with satellite, the Internet, and personal devices like iPods. Living locally doesn’t mean hearing or seeing locally anymore!

The one daily paper, The Gazette, gets some competition from bigger papers out of the region—notably The Denver Post and the Wall Street Journal. For TV, it’s not about what stations, the question is what cable provider. There’s Comcast, DirectTV, and Dish network. Each location—even by subdivision—might mean something else. Confusing? You said it!

For radio, we have a lot of country and Christian stations. But more than what kind of station, we have a very revolving environment. One day a station might be rock, and then the next week it’s country. You can never be sure, but people have adapted. Put it this way—our media scene is a lot like family. We might not always like it, but we live with it.
