Health Care - Colorado Springs, Colorado

Health Care - Health & Wellness

In general, people of the Pikes Peak region like to be healthy, and they take care of themselves to stay that way. Colorado is often in the news as one of healthiest or fittest states. Our overweight and obesity rates are lower than the national average, our rate of cardiovascular disease is only about 25 percent of the rate for the US as a whole, and the majority of people in the Pikes Peak region are considered physically active.

This is not to say there aren’t issues. The Pikes Peak region’s infant mortality rate, which is a good measure of a community’s overall social and economic well-being, is about 6.5 deaths per 1,000 live births, well above the goal of 4.5. Methamphetamine use and suicides are also higher than the national average. Luckily there are a number of concerned and active groups addressing these issues from both the public and private sector.

The Pikes Peak region has strong, award-winning medical systems, qualified medical professionals, and state-of-the-art facilities. A number of fitness clubs and venues cover the area, and there are teaching professionals available for every sport and pastime. The populace works to stay healthy and well through nutrition, activities, and lifestyle, which makes this a good place to live, even with future challenges.
