Description: Here’s a remnant of the past in the place from which Kings Island amusement park drew its name. This three-story inn was built in 1903 by Col. George King, whose family owned the King Powder Co. from which the town got its label. The inn is convenient to Kings Island, the Little Miami Bike Trail, and surrounding attractions. Owner Bob Molinaro offers a spacious living room, cozy library, sunroom, and giant wraparound porch. Three guest rooms and a two-room suite are available—all with private baths. Furnishings are comfortable and in appropriate early-20th-century styles.

Description: The Parker House is a historic bed-and-breakfast inn in the city neighborhood of Clifton, only a short walk from the University of Cincinnati and a brief car trip or walk from “Pill Hill” hospitals. Mark and Patricia Parker serve as proprietors of this 7,000-square-foot Queen Anne Victorian mansion that was built in the 1870s. The four guest rooms all have private baths, and the first two floors (out of three) are devoted entirely to guests’ enjoyment. Breakfast is served in the original music room, with its 12-foot mural ceilings. Parking is free and available, a rare amenity in Clifton. Smoking is OK on the porch.

It’s a bit more of a hike than the other bed-and-breakfasts listed here, about two hours east of Cincinnati, but this medieval-castle inn is certainly worth the drive. Proprietors Sue and Jim Maxwell invite you to stay in one of their 12 guest rooms. There’s a tearoom, great hall with fireplace, and gift shop. The castle is nestled in the rustic Hocking Hills, a region verily overflowing with geological wonders: waterfalls, scenic foothills, and more.

It’s settled in the countryside, yet just 12 minutes from the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the brick home is owned and operated by Nancy and Bob Swartzel. There are phones and cable in every room, and all rooms have private baths. The scenic grounds and gardens are close to horse-riding and fishing opportunities. Turfway Park racetrack is also nearby. And, yes, a man named Willis Graves built the house.

Description: This bed-and-breakfast is in a unique building: the former Bellevue Christian Church in the town’s historic district. Brenda Guidugli spent a year stripping the sanctuary to its frame; only the floor, stained-glass windows, and painted tin roof remain in the interior. She added a balcony that wraps around three sides of the second story. There are three bedrooms with private baths—one is a suite with a living room and a two-person whirlpool. Each room has a TV with a built-in VCR and cable. An interesting note: The church congregation weighed offers from other churches before deciding that a life as a B&B was a better future for the building.

Description: Dana Kisor and Jennifer Warner operate this bed-and-breakfast in an 1870s farmhouse well away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Set among the rolling hills on the bluffs above the Ohio River, First Farm Inn offers a fish pond as well as horseback riding. Spacious rooms are decorated with century-old handcrafted oak furniture belonging to Warner’s great-grandparents and have private baths. Lest you think yourself too far from civilization, fax and Internet access are provided. Breakfast itself is anything from Grand Marnier French toast to baked southwestern eggs. You’re welcome to bring your horse (pasture boarding available).
