Description: Built in 1854 by entrepreneur Amos Shinkle, this inn lies in the heart of Covington’s historical Riverside District amid courtyard gardens. The Amos Shinkle Townhouse is ornately decorated with rich cornices, an Italianate facade with a cast-iron filigree porch, grand chandeliers, elaborate crown moldings, Italianate mantels, and oak floors. This bed-and-breakfast inn—overseen by proprietors Bernard Moorman and Don Nash—is listed by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, which requires that an inn be at least 50 years old and have maintained its historical integrity. There’s a garden and patio, and a long screened porch affords a nice view of the Ohio River and the surrounding historical district. And it’s only a short walk or drive to downtown Cincinnati or antiques stores and fine dining in Covington’s MainStrasse Village.Among the seven guest rooms is a master bedroom in the main house with a private bath and four rooms in the carriage house, in which horse stalls have been redesigned as imaginative sleeping quarters for kids. All rooms have four-poster Victorian beds and telephones.
