Description: Enjoy a sea chantey? Attracted to schooner bums? Then get thee to Camden over Labor Day weekend for Windjammer Weekend, the last of the season’s grand parades of sail. The age of tall ships is roasted over the course of three days with songs and music, the telling of tall tales, a schooner bum talent show, nautical workshops, the ever-popular lobster crate races, and fireworks. With Camden’s compact harbor abrim with graceful schooners, it’s quite a spectacle.

Description: What’s Brian Eno doing in Camden, Maine? The eminent recording artist (Roxy Music, solo stuff) and producer (U2, Peter Gabriel, David Bowie, Paul Simon) was speaking at PopTech!, an annual conference that explores science and technology and the future of ideas. Every October this rather remarkable confab attracts some 500 visionaries from the worlds of technology, arts, design, education, business, government, and the sciences to the beautifully restored Camden Opera House. So Eno was in good company. If you’re interested in where we’re all headed—or just want to ogle celebrities—you’ll find PopTech! a fascinating weekend.
