2. Curtis Island Light

City: Camden, ME
Category: Tours & Attractions
Address: Curtis Island

Description: Many things make Camden Harbor dramatic—the rounded green backs of the Camden Hills towering above, the pretty brick town below it, and Curtis Island at the harbor’s entrance. A small, piney isle, Curtis is home to a 26-foot sentinel, built for $4,500 in 1896 on the order of President Andrew Jackson. The island is reachable by kayak or dinghy, and it is now a public park owned by the town of Camden. Respectful visitors are always welcome. If you don’t have a boat, the light is easily viewed from a variety of Camden points, including Bayview Street, the Public Landing, and the tops of Mount Battie and Mount Megunticook.
