31. Baxter Avenue Filmworks

City: Louisville, KY
Category: Nightlife
Telephone: (502) 459-2288
Address: 1250 Bardstown Rd.

Description: Located in the heart of the Highlands neighborhood, on the back side of the Mid-City Mall, Baxter Avenue Filmworks is far from the typical multiplex. This is the place to come for first-run, foreign, and independent films shown in eight wall-to-wall-screen auditoriums featuring state-of-the-art projection equipment and Dolby Digital surround sound. One of Baxter’s biggest draws is its sleek design. Among the aesthetic touches you’ll find hand-painted murals by local artists on the concourse walls, and in each theater; a mural celebrates one of the directors that has made a valuable contribution to film. In addition to a multimedia video wall above the concession stand, there are also lighted moving sculptures and vintage posters.
