Description: The 42-acre Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site encompasses the King Center and the King birth home on Auburn Avenue. The visitor center has exhibits about Dr. King and Atlanta as well as information on other national parks in our area and the entire Southeast. Parking has always been lacking in the perpetually busy King district, but the center includes a large parking lot just north of Irwin Street that is 1 block north of Auburn Avenue. The National Park Service conducts guided tours of the King birth home daily every hour from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The tour is free, but visitors must obtain a ticket at the National Park Service office. The site is closed on Christmas and New Year’s Days.

Description: Established in 1863, this cemetery holds the remains of more than 3,000 Confederate soldiers buried in graves arranged by home state. Most of the soldiers fell in the fighting around Kennesaw and Marietta. The cemetery is always open.

Description: Opened in 1996, the city museum is housed in the elegant Civil War–era Kennesaw Hotel. Volunteers renovated the second level for exhibits and displays. A general exhibit of Marietta history features artifacts that were donated by residents, and it changes regularly as new donations arrive. View the displays and visit the small gift shop daily, Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for ages 55 and over and students; children 6 and under are free.
