Don't take my word for it. Search out the lengths of employment at major high paying tech firms. Example: average stay at Google is 3 years. A programmer with an advanced degree starts at $66k.
People stay at Microsoft far longer than that, ditto--Amazon. One big reason some Bay Area techies don't stay long, is that the COL is so high, they stay just long enough to build their resume, then move on. With remote working, the need to move on is eliminated.

But if you have lots of money in stocks and bonds you can rent anywhere you can afford it and aren't stuck in the same place.

And even if you own your house outright there are still lots of expenses, so wtf is your point?

This is especially true in WA State, where property valuations can soar (as they have in Seattle) to the point, that people can no longer afford to stay in their homes, even if there's no mortgage. That's especially a concern for retirees, but I knew someone who was still working, but was facing having to sell the home he grew up in and inherited from his parents, due to skyrocketing property taxes. California solved this problem long ago, via Proposition 13. Being taxed out of one's fully-paid for home is an all-too-real concern in WA.

Yeah, no kidding.

Most people can afford house expenses on a paid house with out a high paying job. Maybe not in Seattle, but if they live there they can sell the home and have a ton of money to relocate somewhere cheaper.

nah..my family is overloaded with techies. The average stay is two years in all those high flying companies. Their world is pretty small, too, so if you're a screw up, you won't work.

My brother did 30 years at IBM, but he was too mean to fire.

Maybe the average stay was 2 years, especially in the Bay Area. But that could change pretty quickly, now that some employees can live anywhere. Pay and. COL match up better. in the greater Seattle. area, so the big companies. there haven't had as much trouble retaining talent. The first batch of Microsoft programmers stayed until they could retire, which, given the stellar performance of the company. stocks they had as part of their compensation scheme, they could afford to do after 10-15 years with the company. I know a number of people, who are in Amazon & Microsoft for life. They have no reason to go anywhere else.

Some knucklehead put two small Nazi symbols on two Bellingham stores. The Bellingham police has a joint FBI task force to hunt down the criminal.

Last month, antifa (the true fascists) burned the county courthouse's American flag and destroyed landmarks. No arrests; not even trying.

To be law enforcement in a fascist town like Bellingham, you really have to share their mindset. Bellingham cops are true anti-American fascists. I wouldn't doubt they're antifa.

We have been out of the area for awhile. What happened at the county courthouse and which landmarks were destroyed? I knew the flags were burned and Antifa graffiti sprayed at city hall in August.

We are kinda liking the peace and quiet of Northern Nevada ranch country. Bellingham, our home town, is become an alien place to us.

As if Antifa people would spray that anywhere. They're not a gang marking their turf.
