A couple days ago Senator Cantwell visited Port Angles and talked about the fentanyl drug problem and possible federal money to fix the problem. Like more drug rehab centers and the like.

After reading all the talk, talk, talk...I see one thing she and others missed..Where and how did the drugs got into the country in the first place...Instead she and other should be putting pressure on Biden to close the border where most of the drugs are coming from. But of course she and her fellow democrats don't see a border problem.
So the beat goes on.

It has nothing to do with Biden or Democrats. Drugs have flowed into the US for decades, irrespective of who's in the White House or who controls Congress. "Closing the border" is a naive idea. Surely you must know, that the drugs have been coming in via tunnels, some equipped with rails and cars running on those rails, and others via trucks, though border control tries to check the trucking. Where there's major money to be made, the cartels will find a way to get through. They laugh at "closed borders". They eat "closed borders" for lunch, with salsa.

Fentanyl is so concentrated and easy to mass produce that we will NEVER be rid of it through law enforcement interdiction. That is simply a fact. And the whole enterprise is doomed to failure.

If you could wave a magic want and make 50% of all the fentanyl in the US magically disappear what do you think would actually happen? Two things:

1. The remaining distributors of the other 50% would make an absolute killing as the price doubled, which would simply attract endless new dealers and distributors into the market (supply and demand), and

2. Existing addicts would become doubly desperate and double their crime and anti-social behavior to gain the increased funds necessary to maintain their fixes. So twice as many cars stolen, catalytic converters stolen, people robbed, etc.

Would we be in a better place if that happened? Doubtful.

Don't forget the drones they use to drop packages over the border as well. It's so ridiculously easy to get stuff over. The war on drugs is something that can never be won and it's silly to think otherwise. I always find it funny when people talk about this stuff but glance over all the alcohol related deaths and incidents that happen every year. Also, all the money the government so-called spends on the border and illegal immigrants crossing over is a joke. Most of that money is going into politicians pockets. It's a colossal waste of money better spent elsewhere.

I'd think it was obvious that drug addiction is a medical issue rather than a law enforcement issue. The illegal drug market creates the law enforcement aspect--based on the profitability of selling any and all banned substances. A lesson supposedly learned from the days of alcohol prohibition and the subsequent rise of huge-well heeled, well armed criminal gangs.

We are becoming overwhelmed both on the law enforcement and medical fronts with regard to the "drug problem." Filling the prisons with those addicted souls won't be a viable answer considering all the other criminal cases that are overloading the courts today. Decriminalizing drugs without initiating some type of state control to supplant the criminal dealer network is a no brainer, it won't work, and it will only cause a worse problem for the addicted.

Tens of thousands of Americans are addicted to booze, and yet it is sold openly in stores and bars, and it is still causing problems for the addicted, their families and many businesses. If some people are hoping to become a problem free society with regard to drugs, all I can say is they need a more mature view of the human condition. We can make the problem worse, or better, but we will never make it disappear.

For all the labor and money that has gone into the justice systems attempts to ameliorate our drug problems, the drugs are still here, the addicted population has grown, and far worse drugs have become the norm in the world of addiction. Who considers that track record to be a practical and affordable solution? Insanity has been defined as doing the same thing over and over while expecting different results. Our present drug policies look like the work of crazies who just can't be influenced by a greater truth..

Yes, I was thinking that would be one way to go, but I haven't heard/read about it, so I didn't mention it. Thx for posting!

Like I said liberal/democrats/socialist don't really care about the open southern border and the drug problem in America.
And the several above posts proves my point.

US Alcohol deaths 2023 at 140,000.

US Fentanyl deaths 2023 at 107,000.

They are different ways of dying.

So it's a colossal waste of money to stop drugs and illegals alien flowing across our southern border? Got it..
You hit the nail on the head first try.
So I ask you what is the solution beside let it happen because Biden and democrat don't care.
