Sounds like potentially easy pickings for the non-substance-abusing people that have been moving into the area. Thanks, again. I asked in part on the OP's behalf, to fill out the jobs picture a little more. that poster "lissesara" briefly laid out.

Don't remember saying it was a landslide..

Well since the state of Washington votes mostly democrat and western Washington is about 75% left leaning don't you think Trump winning the popular vote in a far western county in Washington is more a landslide then not?

The town I fell in love with were Port Angeles/Sequim area. I like the small town feel, I LOOOOVE the nature that surrounds it so tell me about it. The good, the bad, the ugly, the quirks, positive, negative whatever.. I want to know everything!

I would NOT move to Sequim if I knew what I do now after five years here.

We believed the hype that it was a great place for Seniors. We left Seattle due to crime, traffic, cost of living, rain, needed a change. I liked ID but husband did not, as much. I said let's move to OR but he wanted to return to WA. We chose Sequim because we thought there would be an easier, quieter lifestyle than the Big City.

It IS pretty here. We do have mountains, water, greenery. But, there's a lot of apathy. A lot of poverty. I did not know when we researched moving here that an Indian Tribe own/ran everything. That would not bother me at all if they did nothing but good. But right after we moved here they announced plans to build a methadone clinic in a town full of older people. Since then everything has gone downhill. We still have nature & deer out on almost every drive. But there are homeless & panhandlers on corners now.

Our doctors have left, our Vet is leaving, our dentist left, can't find a hairdresser. If you need any medical help you might just have to take a long trek to Seattle. This is via a winding 101 highway full of logging trucks, impaired drivers, accidents, then a ferry, then a drive thru Seattle's rock throwers & fire starters. We have no decent restaurants. Prices are high, meals are substandard, service is bad. We have started eating at Costco. We buy a nice ready-made meal & eat it at home for 3 days. No surly waitstaff, all the water refills we want, no tip required.

Some people like it here. I am bored to tears. Our ONLY recreation is the casino once a week. We do like the tribal casino & they have a decent place to eat. We have a local attraction - RR Bridge - but you can't go to that every day. There is poverty, run down properties, sad people. We have pan handlers now hanging around Safeway, Goodwill, our bank. Someone was shot in our neighborhood.

If your life is church, you might like it here. We're not church-goers & only about half our neighbors will say hello back to us. They might be the church goers?

Our daughter moved here too. She now has three kids. Schools are run down, services are few & far between. They have to drive quite some distance to take their kids anywhere new & exciting - Silverdale. Gas was most expensive of all 50 states here but CA is catching up.

When we moved here I felt it was silly to choose a place based on access to medical care. I was in decent health. Since moving here I had to have a hip replacement & have had two falls resulting in fractures which were not treated by caring, compassionate professionals.

I grew up in the Seattle area code back when it was safe. It's not any more. I like small-town life for this stage of living but less rain & lots of evergreens don't make up for what is lacking here. I wish a state-of-the-art Arthritis Center with a warm therapy pool had been built to help all the seniors shuffling around in pain. Instead our local Y dropped coverage for oldsters to join as Silver Sneakers.

If you are young & fit & want to paddle one of those rare canoes around waters' edge, you might love it here, But my daughter, 32, doesn't like it either. We don't know where to research if we could budge our husbands.

Well, I would advise anyone interested in Sequim/Port Angeles to also check out Port Townsend. There's more to do there, it's a little closer to civilization, has a hospital, and a busy festival season late spring through early fall: a film festival, music festivals, all kinds of things. And it has a good co-op; anyplace with a good co-op can't be too bad.

Another possibility would be the Kitsap Peninsula, which connects to Seattle by a couple of ferries. There's Poulsbo, which a lot of people find to be charming, and there's Silverdale and Bremerton, both of which are small but have medical facilities, a hospital, and other signs of civilization, while also being quiet and scenic.

No place is right for everyone, it really depends on what you like to do for entertainment. It definitely sounds like it was a mistake for you. Meanwhile, however, my parents retired there, on 4 acres between Sequim and PA on Blue Mountain Rd. They enjoyed maintaining a huge vegetable garden (with my help), fruit trees, had two tractors and a boat. They had several great neighbors, who all pitched in to help each other with various projects. Both spent time at the Olympic Medical Center, and at Harrison in Bremerton, and had no complaints about the care they received. They were very happy there until he passed 3 years ago. Now my Mom is in assisted living at age 94 and never gets out so the nearby meth clinic has not been a bother. I also have a brother in Sequim, but again he's happy because he's away from town off of Woodcock, next to the woods and he enjoys the wildlife and gardening.

Yeah, Port Townsend is much more my vibe than Sequim. Sequim doesn’t seem to have much of a downtown core or sense of place. That freaky Q Anon Sequim mayor certainly didn’t help public perceptions. Meanwhile, Port Townsend is charming, welcoming, open-minded and brimming with culture and activities.
