Yup, my mom is an Omi too.
That’s a handle they wear with pride.
Even the unrelated call her that .

On a schnitzel note,
Back when abalone was lawful to harvest.
Most Californians,
Pounded it tender.
Egg washed it.
Put crumbs on it and then fried it.

This was done for years and originated from a German that knew how to cook schnitzel .

My brother snorkeled to harvest legal abalone and mom prepared it just like Schnitzel…

It could be we just meet the nicest people when in Western WA…

Update… had dinner at German Diner in Lacey WA

Small family restraint with dishes just like Grandma made.

Noticed a number of what must be regulars with to go orders.

Seating was limited but we were ok without reservation being early.

Still no opening date for the Tumwater Falls Terrace?

Once in awhile someone says they're still working on it, but I think it's still for sale.

I am not sure it will ever have the same appeal until the lurking hulk of the Brewery is torn down. It's a horrible scar on the view right now. I wouldn't want to go there and sit at the windows and look at it, derelict and ugly.

The falls park is such a jewel, I wish they'd clean up the brewery. It still makes me sad. It was such a great part of our town during my growing up.

On edit.... what a neat old memory thread... I think Therese is still loving the place we helped her find in Shelton!
