I too am a fan of the America song, I was a kid when it was a hit on the radio. I thought they were saying venture a highway! It was sometime later I learned it was a city and the name of a highway in California, but always pronounced it Ven-tu-ra once I knew. Growing up in San Antonio I have to admit it grates on my nerves when TV shows or movies in LA pronounce the street or area as San Peed-row.

Ventura has no "ch" in it.

This is, according to Jesse Ventura. Wrestler/politician from Minnysooota....

This thread took down a rabbit hole, maybe because I've lived in a lot of different towns in a lot of different states. I remembered how jarring it was to hear newscasters mispronounce Loogootee, IN, when I was a kid ( Hoosiers from that area pronounce it Luh - GO - tee).
