I've heard Montana has seen an influx of Texans moving there. I'm curious what is drawing Texans to the state. Other than it being conservative it's very different in climate and culture. I've also heard Texans are moving to the Black Hills. I saw quite a few living in Wyoming but I always assumed most there worked in the oil fields. Are people just leaving Texas in general? I have no intention of moving to Texas (too hot for me) but am just asking out of curiosity.

Texan here, how many of these movers are building second homes and condos vs. moving out? FE my brother and I are building a place in Whitefish with no intentions of moving per se.

There is a long history of West Texas ranchers and oil types buying land in Montana and Colorado in particular.

I don't think the cultures in Montana and rural Texas are all that different.

I also haven't heard much of people moving to Montana. Definitely Colorado, but a big chunk of that is liberal people not happy about how conservative Texas is OR people moving there to be able to smoke legal marijuana.

I don't think that many Texans are leaving. Most people in San Antonio that I grew up with moved to bigger cities for job prospects but I bet many will come back to raise a family.
