I do want to point out that Knox County is not dry, nor is Knoxville. You could not get liquor by the drink at one time in the county, but the voters changed that well over a year ago.
Apparently, you do need some sort of dispensation to sell drinks on the water in Tennessee according to this article. Look all the way down at the bottom.

About the Tri-Cities, I don't believe Carter and Sullivan counties are dry, but I know for a fact that Washigton county is not dry..their seems to be a liquor store around every corner in Johnson City. No problems here. (of course wine is not sold in grocery stores which is compliant with a Tennessee state law)

Thank you everyone for the information. I am one of those boomers who has already moved to Tenn. for many reasons. No state taxes. no personal property tax, everything is less expensive by a fairly large margin. I actually realize an additional $100.00 per month in my pension check because there are no state taxes. I am planning to move to Gatlinburg in another year or two and if it and everything around it was dry it would have made a differnce. I retired to do what I want when I want and having a mixed drink is something that I am going to want. Does anyone know the story on all of those condos for sale in the area of the ski lodge.They are priced beyond belief and I am a little afraid of something that is too good to be true. What's wrong with them? There are so many.

Very steep drive. In bad weather, will be an issue. Numerous complaints about this place. It's condos but they also rent them out to vacationers.

No liquor stores in Obion county. Can't even buy wine, but you can buy beer. They finally got liquor by the drink about 10 years ago, but even that was a struggle.

Being from Ky, I know all about dry/wet counties; and I know that IMO it's safer to have a liquor store than bars that serve by the drink. Most people I know would rather sit outside on the back porch after a long day and have a beer or two, than get dressed and go into town to have a drink then DRIVE home, lol. Silliness, IMO.
