Indiana used to have a solid blue plate years ago ~2008 and older and it was terrible on cars. I always thought it clashed with most cars.

Tennessee’s current plate is beautiful, too bad the State could not have just refreshed it versus totally changing it to a boring blue plate

I was hoping Tennessee would do something like New York and showcase each region of Tennessee (mountains and the Knoxville disco for East, Nashville for Middle, and Memphis Pyramid for West).

Maybe this is just a ploy to get more people to spend extra for the more attractive specialty license plates. I know I'm going to probably do that when it comes time to renew my tag.

Gov. Bill Lee on Monday invited Tennesseans to "Rate the Plates." Rate a Plate is over. Design #1 won with 42%. 300,000 residents voted. License plates are resigned every eight years if approved by the General Assembly's budget.

The state's statute requires the words "Tennessee," "Volunteer State," and "TNvacation.com" on the plates. County names and expiration year decal locations are also required.

Additionally, there's an option for residents to select "In God We Trust" to be displayed.

NOT a ploy. Green plates may be 16 years old. Time to change.

Meh. All four options were pretty weak. I voted for the design that won but it was more of a crapshoot since none of them really stood out.

I'll definitely opt for a specialty plate next year.

Yeah, I looked at the rate the plate site. What was there to rate, they were all slight variations on the same design. A "Do you want that done in black and white or do you want it done in white and black?" kind of choice.

JMT I think you're on to something myself!

The Smoky Mountain Rescue Dog plate is not shown. It is new, they just reached the 1,000 pre-orders to create it.

I don't love the current plates but the new ones have reached a new low. Thank goodness for special issue tags.

Yes, those mainstream plates are horrid. I will opt for an AT plate myself.
