It wasn't for me since I love my home area here in the snow belt but I didn't find it a horrible place to live--just not a good fit personally.

Chattanooga, the Nashville Metro area, and Knoxville area are all nice regions if you are planning to live in Tennessee.

The state has a lot of smaller towns/cities and many rural areas if that's more someone's style.

Worst place I've personally lived is South Carolina and I've lived in one of the other ones on the list (Louisiana).

Arkansas I can confirm has got to be the worst State. I did a lot of business in Little Rock and Arkansas is an ugly State with little reason to live there unless you had Family or grew up there.
It's a shame you've had negative images of Tennessee and Arkansas. Many disagree with Nashville being one of the really big boom cities. Too bad you were not a little more specific on "poor infrastructure."

And Arkansas being ugly? Worst state? What rock are you crawling from under?

You should be double thinking living in Kentucky--an essentially bankrupt state that cannot begin to pay their state pensions.

I have never seen a list if best and worst ever to be close to correct. I never even look at such articles. The standard of living in the deep south is most often so far superior to other places due to our lower cost of living.

I will agree with you that Kentucky is also not in great shape. My wife worked for the Commonwealth and you are correct that there is a severe pension crisis and the State has no solutions to resolve the issue, just keep kicking the can down the road. I am moving to Florida next week as my employer is re-aligning regions due to the Covid-19 virus and requested my transfer so out of KY we go.

As for Arkansas....I find it dumpy...a lot of trash in side of roads, high crime cities such as Little Rock and Pine Bluff. Little Rock, the State Capital, has an excessively high crime rate for a city its size. Between Memphis and Little Rock is nothing but rice and cotton fields with Forrest City being the only place to stop between the two cities. Again, I have heard good things about the Ozarks but have only been up that way as a kid, years ago.

Tennessee’s infrastructure is bad around Nashville and more specifically the interstates. Traffic is bad in Middle Tennessee mainly due to poor highways and Interstates that converge in downtown with bad exit/entrance ramps and lane shifts.

I don’t think TN is the worst place to live...but some people don’t fit with certain places. My experience in Nashville was not good, but I think Chattanooga and Knoxville would be a better fit if I had to live in TN again.

This is mostly true, unfortunately, and I think the article throws overall shade to everything in the state, due to this.

Tennessee is a beautiful state with a good economy, stunning geography, low cost of living and tons of things to do.

The "4th worst place to live" is not accurate, taking everything into consideration.

Me, having lived in 8 different states and travelled to almost every state, I'd put Tennessee in the top 20 best states, overall. There are many, many worse states to live in.
The state has several anti LGBT bills pending, which if ever come to fruition could hurt the states economy. Would effect things like Corporate expansion, hosting major sporting events, conventions etc.

I'm not exactly a Tennessee fan by any measure, not my style at all, but it's not the 4th worst state.
I'd probably put it more in the middle somewhere I guess. I actually like Memphis the best. Just something about it..
Arkansas is a whole lot more than cotton fields. Being weird, I like that part better than the Ozarks though. Little Rock is actually a generally pretty town that straddles the hills and the wetlands.
There are a LOT of similarities between the two states, but Tennessee has always been more business and growth oriented.

Yes, it's true.

Please tell every blue stater you know so they don't make the tragic mistake of moving to TN.

If I weren't so lazy I'd post that link in the CA, IL, NY, NJ and MA forums as a warning.

.
So that factors into lowering an entire state's desirability and quality of life?

What an asinine metric.

So because Tennessee is not yet totally a PC, Woke, SJW, Socialist Utopia they think it is a terrible place. Yet that is what makes TN largely a great place to live and prosper. Go figure.

These lists always show most southern states to be the worst places in America to live. The media uses their power to paint us as they want us to be seen. The fact that they use metrics like gay rights to rank the livability of states shows their un hidden attempt to smear conservative red states with these lists. If what they say is true then why are so many people moving to such terrible places? Why are people not moving to blue state paradises like New Jersey or Illinois? Why is Detroit not a boom town? Why is everyone leaving California? These are the better to live in enlightened states right? Please

I’m glad TN does not have a bunch of special rights for the LGBTQWFTVs lol. I’m glad we don’t have programs for everything and super high taxes. If you want all that go live in Newsoms California. The media has gained way to much power in this country...proof of that is the coronavirus panic they started. A full third of the country still fears dying of the “rona” because the talking head on the idiot box told them they would if they go outside. Maybe we should make our own list of worst states.....top ten will all be yankee blue states. Better yet maybe Pelosi and Schumer should build a wall at the Ohio River/Mason Dixon line to protect all those good blue states from our troubles.......wouldn’t want more loyal subjects escaping to freedom would we?

I agree. Some of the worst States are blue States that have high taxes and regulation and also a lot of political corruption. Illinois (corruption, pension crisis), New York (extreme taxes and regulations), and Michigan (corruption, job loss, water quality crisis and now two dams failed).

Tennessee is likely a State in the middle of quality of life. Certainly way worse places to live. I wouldn’t base my choice to move to a state based upon a CNBC article or any other main stream media sources. Typically, Southern and Midwestern States get put down by the media that is largely stuck in their own bubble in the Coasts.
