Also, many people from outside the area assume "North Syracuse" refers to north side of city and is located within the city limits. North Syracuse is actually a village and suburb north of the city limits. Some parts of the town of Salina have a North Syracuse address which is fine.
Also, Lyncourt is a hamlet in the town of Salina and has many affordable and well maintained starter homes. While this community has a Syracuse address and zip code (13208), it has its own school district called Lyncourt. If you see real estate listings with Lyncourt schools, they will be in the town of Salina, not the city of Syracuse.
Hope this helps.
This is true and the same can also be said somewhat with Mattydale and Galeville. Just look around as it's more about the upkeep of homes versus crime.

They go hand in hand, I believe in the "broken windows" policy that Mayor Rudy G. used when he became NYC Mayor...It worked! Keep homes up, get rid of graffiti, clean up the neighborhood, etc., confidence builds and crime goes down.

True, but in working class suburbs like Mattydale and somewhat with Galeville, I think it is a matter of older residents and the time some families have to keep their homes up the way they want to versus crime being a serious issue. I agree though that when people keep their homes up that it is a deterrant to crime. I wouldn't say that it is something that is significant in these suburbs, but it is there and in a lesser degree. Think more of some chipped paint here or there, needing a new roof and some other fixer upper type of things with some of these homes.
The Lake was cleaned a few years ago. I heard on the news that it now meets all safety and health standards. It is so clean that you can swim in Onondaga Lake now. They said it actually cleaner than Jamesville Beach located just south of DeWitt. But without a beach or life guards it is illegal to swim in it.
Here is video that starts on interstate 81 in Salina, then at a hotel in Liverpool, then to the Mall just over the border in the city of Syracuse, then he goes to Onondaga Lake Park.
Just to advise 18 wheeler drivers that may come to the area and have to drive to or through the village of Liverpool, that bridge has never lost/been defeated, as many try to drive on Onondaga Lake Parkway, but end up hitting or getting stuck under that bridge. Take Old Liverpool Road instead coming off of I-81 to get to or through the village of Liverpool.
Also, she has some other nice driving videos of the area.

The small town of Mattydale is a more rural suburb just north of Syracuse near Onondaga Lake. Its claim to fame is having been the one-time home to L. Frank Baum, who wrote “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.” A middle school now sits on the site of his former home.
The town has the usual amenities that homebuyers want, including a movie theater, restaurants, and bars. As a bonus, it’s right near the Syracuse Hancock International Airport.
Most of the homes for sale in Mattyvale are smaller, single-family homes priced below $150,000. This cute three-bedroom, 1.5-bath home spanning about 1,600 square feet is on the market for $145,000.
