I guess that's one benefit of not really getting caught up in the big housing boom... we in turn also missed out on the big crash. This area doesn't really swing too wildly in the real estate market.

I think some of that has to do with the fact that housing is so cheap in Syracuse, which goes back to demand.

CNY housing market escapes crisis. It wasn't overheated to begin with, so there's less danger of a meltdown.

What housing slump?

Many other markets, including Syracuse, did not experience huge run-ups in prices, never bothered with subprime mortgages and are not seeing price declines or rising foreclosures now, they said.

"The big declines are all about these super-overheated markets in California, Florida and Las Vegas,"
