So, all 3 of the Eastern suburban SD's could work. Bus lines on James Street and East Genesee are going to be the most traveled, but a lot will depend on work location schedule.

Please give us something new that has not been rehashed so so many times!
While it doesn't have much walkability outside of the village, but has the stores you want and has a couple of schools in the SKATE program, Camillus/Fairmount not too far from West Genesee Street may work. There are a couple of lines that run on West Genesee and there is plenty of shopping, with more coming in the town.

Not sure if you are trying to helpful or not, just trying to get info as far as walkability in Syracuse, I never got around to driving (fear, crazy NYC drivers, road rage...) so the more info the better. Although I have read quite a bit about Syracuse I haven't read everything. Do you disagree with the Info CK has given, and if yes do you have your own suggestions, it would be more than welcome. Thanks
You may want to try contacting SUPAC (Syracuse University Parent Advocacy Center). They are the Mid-State Region Special Education Parent Center. It covers both the Syracuse area and the Ithaca area.
They might be able to give you some really good advice, information and resources concerning Special Education and the different school districts. I also know that once you pick a district they can also help you with advocating for yourselves and even attend the IEP meetings with you if you run into problems. www.supac.org and their phone # 315-443-4336
Thanks for the info, will give them a call. Would you happen to know from experience if Syracuse has a good transitioning program for teens moving into adulthood (becoming street smart, travel safety, life skills, becoming employable) obviously the onus is on us as parents to provide these life skills, however the more support the better. Thanks again

Thanks, just a little more background, I did live in Albany for 3 or 4 years completely car-free, this was over ten years ago. I lived right of Central avenue, which is considered a main street out there. I was in walking distance of a Hannaford, Price choppers, Food Coop and other various local stores. I did take the bus quite a bit (mall shopping, school, work, downtown business). It felt okay without a car out there, now I was never out after 11 am or anything like that, so not sure what happens after midnight. Is there any similarities to Syracuse in terms of what I just said.
I just did a little street view tour of the above links, the wide roads in syracuse is probably good for drivers, it does have a highway type feeling if your a pedestrian, the stores are your basic national chain stores that I would need to go to once a month or so. Are there any areas in Camillus that the stores are not all necessary mega stores, maybe a mix of local and national type stores, where there are people walking around( I kind of like that on a day to day basis) and everything doesn't seem so spread out. I saw a few pics of Manillus, maybe that would do?
Long after we are all dead. No matter what anyone says about how much better it has gotten, I wouldn't touch that water or anything that swims in it.
Wow, with all the money and fuss their making, I was really thinking it would be sooner, I guess I don't really know the science involved in cleaning a large body of water...
