I read today that the state gave Boeing $900 million of taxpayer money to locate in Charleston. I assume there's been more money given since then.
Hard to believe this state had 900 mil to give to one company. Feels like there should be a stipulation that they only hire people living in SC or who went to school / college in SC.
The state gave BMW $600 million in 1992 for a promise of 2,000 jobs. While I’ve seen ads for applying at Boeing recently, I haven’t read any articles about a lot of hires there this year for a return to high production levels. While the debate over whether the state should provide monies for corporations to locate here is ongoing, an economic success story is an economic success story.
This article mentions Greenville, Mrytle Beach, Asheville as top places to move in 2023 but not Charleston. Figured Charleston would be listed if it had more new jobs than the rest of the state. Greenville is listed as #5 in the entire country.
Do you think it is mostly retirees moving to Greenville?

MoveBuddha? I admit Charleston lands on a lot of odd clickbait sources’ lists. They should have checked with DEW and BLS. Also, metro employment numbers that DEW and BLS tabulate cover more territory than addresses cited on a mover’s list or “cities” cited in such a relocation article. And retirees have discovered Greenville for affordability.

Given that the #4 city on that list has a population of about 1k i'm going to go out on a limb and guess it should be noted that all they are calculating is how much cheaper the area people are moving to is than where they are moving out of. So Charleston being more expensive than Greenville and thus rating worse on their caluclation is expected considering more jobs/right on the coast.
Charleston up 1900
Columbia up 2300
Greenville-Spartanburg up 600
Kind of strange to think that Charleston has as many people in its labor force as Greenville did this time last year.
