so now what to do with the Fam power momentum? Will supporters groups try and oust owners? It will take a lot of money.
I wonder if some owners (Kroenke at Arsenal for example) might just sell their shares, given they obviously feel they are not making enough money owning the club
I hope so. I'd really like a 50+1 rule brought into all European football, so that 51% of the club is owned by fans. It's why no German clubs signed up, they knew they couldn't get it passed the fans.
American owners can possible be absolved for not understanding the traditions that come with football, but Perez and Agnelli are football men and they should have known better. It beggars belief.
Not sure how long Agnelli has been main man in Juventus but they are not winning anything this year, the Pirlo experiment hasn't yet worked, wonder if , given the ESL failure he might be looking for a new job soon
Lucky for the Super League disbanding, otherwise a Tottenham win on Sunday would've automatically qualified them for a tournament 3 tiers below where they would've been playing otherwise
This attempt by the super clubs is disappointing because these European soccer clubs have such a strong grass roots connection to their fans. It's hard to explain to Americans because our sports teams aren't connected to the fans in that way.

That's true, though baseball teams come close for regional identification. This is like the Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers, Cardinals, Giants and Mets all forming a private league with the richest Japanese & Korean teams that would play on neutral soil strictly for the enjoyment of international TV audiences, leaving Baltimore, Kansas City and Pittsburgh in the dust as effectively a minor league.

interesting comparison, I often wonder what it is like being a fan of a smaller market MLB team like Pittsburgh, given there is not promotion or demotion in MLB ( or any other Major league sport in the US) The owners of the pirates dont have to worry about losing MLB status (revenue) so they dont really need to invest a lot in salaries to attract big name players and as a result rarely seem to be in the playoffs and have little hope of even a pennant let along the world series, do fans just accept that mediocrity? Franky if they stopped going and buying merchandise the owners would ne inclined to up and move anyways....so it seems fans suffer both ways

Yeah, it's been a conundrum for small market teams/fans. They don't have the money to keep their players once free agency hits, so there is a form of revenue-sharing between the biggest clubs and the smallest, but nothing to force those owners to actually spend the money on the team. And like with all sports, there's nothing to force a bad owner to sell the team, so fans either tolerate it out of loyalty or give up on the sport altogether.

every now and then I see owners invest and win championships think of the Florida Marlins a few years back, then having done that they dismantle the team the following year...i tell you it really highlights the differences between being a European fan and a US fan, totally different set of hopes and expectations
That'll be a very small league. I think Juve might be tempted to join again, but without Premier League and Bundesliga clubs, I think it's dead on arrival. Again.
