I live in the California hi desert, where it's very hot and dry, and arthritis had me bed ridden until I went to an specialist at Loma Linda.
If my enviroment is supposed to be the best thing for arthritis, I would really hate to go to another climate.
When I visited the doctor, I was in terrible shape. I could hardly get in and out of the car by myself. In two days after seeing the dr and getting a perscription, I was 80 % better.
I wasted months on a regular GP doctor, with no results. The specialists had me turning cart wheels in no time... Well, maybe not cart wheels, but I have my painfree life back now.
If your being treated by a GP, kick him to the curb and find a specialist who will actually help you....

Live Content is right. Some good Southwest cities I have been looking at in New Mexico are Tucumcari, Roswell, Carlsbad, Las Cruces, Socorro,Deming, and Hobbs. I worked 28 years construction, had to go out on disability. Left knee, right knee, left hip need to be replaced. Have arthritis in left wrist, and lower back.

The one thing that keeps me in Colorado is good doctors and I JUST DON"T KNOW about health care in the areas I mentioned. My mom once told me the older you get, the more conservative you get. The problem where I'm at (Grand Junction, Colo.) is December and January are downright unbearable! The other months of the year are OK, but those 2 months are a killer as I have to have pain shots everywhere, something I dislike. West Texas is a good point Content! Humidity is low in El Paso, Van Horn, even in the mountains by the McDonald observatory. Odessa and Midland are ok, but 30 miles east of Midland is Big Spring-instant sauna!

My joints hurt living in WA state -- no pain in Santa Fe except when I was using Flonase (dry not so good for sinuses.) After quitting Flonase I no longer have joint pain.

I don't seem to have arthritis thank goodness, but my mom did. After my dad retired they moved to New Mexico and it did seem to help her. If you have some arthritis try an extended vacation somewhere in the southwest, and see how you feel. You could travel to some different cities down there. See which city you like best.

I have severe osteoarthritis in my knees, shoulders, and hands.
I have had one hip replaced and will have both knees done in the near future.

I use to live in the Sacramento Valley where it was hot and dry.
Now I live on the Washington Coast where it is cold and wet.

Sometimes the pain is worse than at other times, but I can't say I notice any difference due to the climate.
But my quality of life is so much better here than in California that even if my joints were more painful, I would rather live here anyway.

Las Cruces, NM has great medical facilities, and a vibrant retirement community (White Sands + University) and 40 min to a nice airport (North end of El Paso)

the owner died and buyers are still wanted for the hot springs near Deming; faywoodDOTcom

Lived in western WA for many years and felt considerable pain due to rheumatoid arthritis . Moved to west-central New Mexico. Being drier here, my joints feel better (but still need to take the "big time" drugs to manage it). Trouble is, rheumatologists are few and far between. Be sure to do lots of research before moving!

Also check into the drug they may prescribe as often drugs like celebrex do wanders but it really depends if the long tiome use is worth it verus not using it. Its not bad for short term usage despite the media hype. But long term they really need to tell you the risk depending on you other medcial conditions. Many that don't have constant pain it really can seem like a miracle for short term use and even worth the risk for some with really crippling effects.Personally I often get moire relief from hot moist heat and exercise also helps. Its over use that often starts my problem.Glad i don't have it in my leg joints because i can rest my shoulder.

I don't know about location, but I have had much improvement since I started doing exercises in the water. I go to a class three days a week and exercise for about an hour. The class is called range of motion. We exercise every muscle in the body including fingers and toes.

My doctor prescribed this and I took it for about 6 months. The last time I went to pick it up it was denied by the insurance company. I am sure glad they know more about my condition and medications than my doctor...
