An interesting change in my life has been occurring lately. I've always gotten (or tried to get) 7 - 8 hours of sleep a night. Recently, I find that two - four hours a night is sufficient and I don't even feel tired the next morning, and I don't nap during the day. Has anyone else found that as you get older, you seem to need less and less sleep?
I don't nap, and I sleep eight hours straight through every night.
If I can get 8.5 hours, that's even better. But I usually am up before that happens.
I am not a doctor but I believe too little sleep can have health consequences. Melatonin is the strongest anti-oxidant we have and it is released in combination with sleep and darkness. Please do your own research on the topic, if interested.
I get around 6 - 7 hours of sleep.
But I'm a cat-napper, big time. 15 minutes and I'm good. It's always been that way. No big changes since I retired in 2010.
I've changed my sleeping habits. Going to bed earlier and getting up earlier. Getting more sleep now. No way would 2 or 4 hours be enough. Minimum of 6 for me.

If anything, I'm more active now with my part-time job and my doing multiple errands on days when I'm not working. It might be that I don't like to sleep anymore because it takes time away from my learning new things (yes, even at my age, I try to continue to pick up knowledge constantly.) My mind just won't shut off.
Seven hours of sleep is about right for me, a bit more the night after a heavy workout. But not all the time is spent actually asleep. I usually wake up and it takes awhile to get back to sleep.
