Just wanted to see how many seniors can still do this bodyweight. I know there will come a time when my body's too beat up or I will weigh too much or both. Oldest person I saw at the gym was a 60 year old male who could do 4 legit chin ups. Probably around 180lbs.

the problem for those of us in good shape who work out daily is going to be muscle memory .

when you don’t do exact motions not all muscle fibers come in to play early on .only enough come in to play to do what you need to do in that particular motion .

it takes a while doing the same motions to employ all existing fibers .

that is why early on people who start lifting weights see big gains early on …they are not growing new muscle .

they are bringing existing muscle fibers they already have in to play .

i am 70 , 173 lbs and have been weight training for 20 years .

my wife and i are gym rats and still go 5 days a week ..i alternate. one day i run 3-1/2 miles and the next day weight lift .

but i doubt i can do more then 1 pull up since i don’t do pull ups . i would have to keep doing them for a few weeks to employ all fibers in that motion

at 70 i find my gains are no longer measured in getting stronger , but measured in what i am not losing compared to others my age .

so far my arms are still hanging in there and not getting smaller over the years and still have decent definition

Yes, I work out several hours a day, every day. I have a full gym in my basement and pride myself in being able to lift more now than when I was in college.

Ha,ha, just kidding....the only weights I lift are the grocery bags bringing them in the house.

I used to work a physical job, lifting heavy objects all day at work every day and had 2 hernias when I retired. Enough said.

I can still do 4 or occasionally 5 pull ups. Good ones too, slow with full motion. Warm air temperatures and muscles helps a lot. Chin ups would be too hard on my elbows.

Age is 65. I'm 6'4" and 170 lbs. Low body weight helps. Long arms, probably not.

BTW, simply hanging from a bar for a minute or so is a recommended exercise for older folks. NYT had an article recently that mentioned this.

I don't do pullups, but every year for my birthday I do the same number of pushups as my age. Full disclosure, I'm only turning 60 this year and I only weigh 150, so it's still manageable. I usually need to start out 6 months in advance, gradually working up to it. Right now I am 4 months from my birthday and I am at 42 pushups. Need to increase by about 1 per week to reach my goal. All one set. . . .no rests. Unfortunately, my belly tends to contact the floor before my chest does

and the answer is one of each

i was afraid for those small stabilizer muscles since i don’t do pull-ups or chin ups and without repeating those motions over a few weeks first it wouldn’t be smart to just dive in with a lot of stress
